John Denver, a singer-songwriter who hails from Colorado who specialized in folk pop music inspired millions of people. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in love with Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's state anthems have inspired people to travel to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame said: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado in the same way as John Denver." Denver, the Hall of Fames' inaugural inductee was recognized with the award in the year 2011. He has become the personification of the state to many people across the globe. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other part of the globe, or someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short period in small folk ensembles. Danoff initially wrote the song to Johnny Cash's tune in mind, but Denver was aware from the very first moment he listened to the early versions that the song could be a huge success. The singer recorded the song within a couple of days following a performance to an enthusiastic audience in Washington D.C.
